New Labeling System to Avoid Errors and Improve Lab Productivity
Errors in vial identification cause serious problems in the laboratory like loss of samples, messed up experiments or waste of reagents. In the worst case scenario, it can lead to wrong conclusions, false data and loss of credibility. Thermo has developed a new labeling system aimed to diminish the probabilities of wrong labelling. Their new technology, called Thermo Scientific Virtuoso Vial Identification System, has proven an 8-fold increase in productivity compared to manual labeling.
During an experiment workflow, there are many points where samples could be mislabeled. Once it happens, it is very hard to determine if the samples are really what the label says. Another problems are poor handwriting, loss of adhesiveness, smearing and degradation over time. Thermo Scientific Virtuoso Vial Identification System solves these problems by printing clear and indelible information directly in the vials. Virtuoso´s software can download sample lists and emergency sample labeling. The information can be introduced through a touchscreen or the lab network, using a template or customizing it according to the lab´s needs. Logos, graphics and barcodes can be included in the images, which are solvent resistant.
The Thermo Scientific™ Dionex™ Chromeleon™ Chromatography Data System (CDS) software can be combined with the vial identification system. All labels can be printed together and all actions can be traced. It is the first CDS to combine separation (GC/IC/LC) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) in a client/server environment.
