An overview of the Ontario Institute for Cancer Research's (OICR) principal programs, technological resources, research strategy, and international relationships will be provided by Dr. Laszlo Radvanyi, OICR President and Scientific Director. More than 325 researchers working in the fields of cancer genetics, molecular biology, biomarker development, and population health studies are housed at OICR, a leading Canadian cancer research funding organization, in Toronto. The goal of the institute is to improve cancer management and prevent relapse by translating state-of-the-art findings into practical applications, with a focus on liquid biopsies, precision oncology, and medicines. In addition, Dr. Radvanyi will discuss findings from his investigation into the function of retrotransposable elements in cancer, emphasizing new pathways and potential treatment targets.
