DNA/RNA Isolation by Magnetic Separation: Chemagic 360

chemagic 360PerkinElmer has launched the Chemagic 360 instrument for automated nucleic acid isolation from blood, saliva or plasma. The Chemagic can work with a wide range of volumes (10 µl-10 ml) and throughputs (1-96 samples per run). It has a compact design (80 x 80 x 90 cm L/W/H) and can be integrated with liquid handling platforms.

The Chemagic 360 is based on the magnetic separation technology developed by chemagen together with the Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe GmbH. Nucleic acids are isolated by binding to M-PVA magnetic beads that are then attracted to magnetized metalic rods. The electromagnet is deactivated while the metalic rods rotate in solution, resuspending the particles homogenously. The high-purity and yield of the recovered DNA/RNA allows its use straightaway in downstream processes. This purification system ensures the absence of cross-contamination. Quality is assured through barcode reading and sample tracking.
