Labcritics exists to help researchers make better decisions about the tools they buy and use. This page sets out how we produce our coverage and what readers can expect from it.
Editorial independence
Our newsroom decides what we cover. Advertisers, sponsors, manufacturers and distributors have no influence over which products we write about, what we conclude, or when a piece is published. No company is given approval rights over our coverage before publication.
How we choose what to cover
We prioritise tools, instruments and software that researchers are actively evaluating: new product launches, significant updates, and categories where buying decisions are difficult or expensive to reverse. Reader questions and tips influence our agenda directly.
Sponsored and guest content
Sponsored posts, press releases and guest contributions are clearly labelled and are kept separate from newsroom reporting. Press releases published in our PR section are supplied by third parties and are not independently verified unless we say so explicitly.
Affiliate links and review units
Some links to vendors may earn Labcritics a commission. Where a manufacturer has supplied hardware, software licences or access for evaluation, that is disclosed on the article itself. Receiving a review unit never guarantees favourable coverage. See our disclosure page for detail.
Accuracy and corrections
We aim to get things right first time and to fix them openly when we do not. Our corrections policy explains how errors are handled and how to report one.
Authorship
Articles carry a byline that links to the author’s profile and published work. You can see everyone who writes for us on our team page.
Use of AI
Editorial judgement, analysis and conclusions are human. Where AI tools assist with research, drafting or summarising, the article remains reviewed and verified by a named editor before publication.
