Leica Microsystems has announced its new Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X confocal super resolution system, to be presented in the coming months at the Society for Neuroscience in San Diego and American Society for Cell Biology in New Orleans annual meetings respectively. The new system features the company’s 3D STimulated Emission Depletion (STED) platform allowing it to achieve resolutions below the diffraction limit in all directions.

The system’s resolution and settings can be optimized to suit the needs. It can also be easily adjusted to obtain best lateral and vertical resolution and the smallest confocal volume. With Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X and its multiple depletion laser choices allows the use of visible light spectrum for confocal super resolution imaging. The technology aboard this system allows the use of more fluorophores and it also yields resolution below 50 nm with any need for data processing, making it ideal for investigating subcellular architecture and cell dynamics in living cells. With the system based on Leica TCS SP8 confocal platform, the older Leica TCS SP8 systems can be easily upgraded to the newer Leica TCS SP8 STED 3X at any time.
