bioRxiv

bioRxiv (pronounced “bio-archive”) is a free, open-access repository for preprints in the life sciences. It was launched in November 2013 by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) and co-founded by John Inglis and Richard Sever. 

The platform enables researchers to share their manuscripts publicly prior to traditional peer review and formal journal publication.

Key features

• Free access: All preprints on bioRxiv are available without paywalls. 
• Broad subject coverage: Accepts work across many sub-fields of life-sciences including genetics, immunology, ecology, neuroscience, bioengineering, synthetic biology and more. 
• DOI assignment: Preprints receive DOIs (digital identifiers) so they can be cited and tracked. 
• Versioning and linking: Authors can post updated versions, when the work is later published in a peer-reviewed journal, bioRxiv links to the published version. 
• Screening process: While not peer-reviewed, submissions undergo basic checks (for non-scientific content, plagiarism, biosecurity issues) before posting
