grants.gov is the primary portal of the U.S. federal government for finding and applying to discretionary grant opportunities offered by federal agencies.
It consolidates funding opportunities from many federal agencies, providing a central “one-stop” interface for applicants. 

Why it matters

• It simplifies access to federal grant funding: rather than searching dozens of agency websites, you can search centrally. 
• It promotes transparency and standardisation of processes across agencies (common forms, shared workflows). 
• For researchers, universities, non-profits and other organizations, it opens up the possibility of applying for U.S. federal grants even if you’re outside the U.S. (you’ll need to check eligibility).
