OMERO is image data management for institutions: a server that stores, organises and serves microscopy data with its metadata intact, so images live in a queryable repository rather than scattered across acquisition workstations and external drives named after whoever bought them.
What it does
It ingests over a hundred proprietary microscope formats through Bio-Formats, preserving acquisition metadata, and serves images to web, desktop and scripting clients without duplicating files. Annotations, regions of interest, analysis results and tags attach to the images themselves, and granular permissions support collaboration across groups and controlled publication of image data alongside a paper.
